The responsible for the unusual art class will be EVS Volunteer Steve Kiers

The exhibition of the art works made by people with fewer opportunities is coming soon...
The visitors of this event will have a unique chance to meet a lot of people, outstanding painters and craftsmen. They are called the disabled but actually they just differ from other ordinary people.
Steve writes: “For the exhibition of the artworks “Open Space for artists” I was asked to think of some ideas to generate interest for the local community to the exhibition. Since the artworks are done by people with disabilities I think the most important feature of this exhibition is to create respect for the disabilities from "normal" people. To make them somewhat understand these people and understand their perspective.
That is why I thought it would be a good idea to interest people to go to the exhibition by giving them a chance to see the world through the eyes of a disabled person. How?
I want to install a contemporary stand in front of the exhibition (in Krupskaya library) where people can try to make a painting, but not in a regular way. They can attempt to make an artwork, but to get in the right state of being; we will give them some disabilities. Of course not make them handicapped?, but by disrupting their senses while making the art. I want to do this by asking them to put on the glasses which are nearly blinded and disrupt a vision. Further I think it would be a fun idea to tie together hands, this will make it hard for people to hold the brushes and recreate an example of a painting or a picture.
I myself have worked for two months at the Raduga Centre and can say that the artists have not only physical disabilities. There are mentally disabled people. The disabilities of the artist go much further than just physical. Our art class is only a small attempt to give others an idea what it like to live with a disability.
